Hello could y'all help me Id this barrel I dug at a civil war battle site? I actually didn't even dig it I eye balled it sticking out of the ground. I found it in an area where a lot of very heavy fighting and shelling took place, I found a shell about 50 yards from this barrel. Im pretty sure that this barrel has been shortened at some point to a carbine, it measures 23 inches. I think it might be a Springfield but I'm not sure. It has some numbers stamped in it but I don't remember exactly where they where, they where very faint. I have cooked the outside and removed the rust, I have not cleaned the inside
