Help ID Confederate General?

He definitely bears a resemblance to Brig. Gen. Henry W. Allen.

If the original ID of McCullough is incorrect, then perhaps we are looking at someone else?

I see a resemblance to George P Doles as well. Anyone else?

The picture is also credited to be Robert A. McCulloch of the 2nd Missouri Cavalry (hence the confusion with Ben McCulloch).

EDIT:

Family ties to Ben? Don´t know. But the Colonel was called Black Bob, and his Lieutenant Colonel was his cousin, who was also named Robert McCulloch and was called Red Bob. :giggle:
That same image is on Find-a-Grave.

Definitely not Ben McCulloch:

@AndyHall would a Colonel have worn three stars on his collar? Do you see the resemblance between the unknown CDV and Dole above?

Lieutenant Colonel was two stars, Colonel was three. The original illustration appears to show a wreath around them, which would indicate a General (of whatever type).

After the initial Union attack on the morning of 10 August, Confederate Brigadier General Benjamin McCulloch rallied Rebel troops and defeated the Union forces at Wilson's Creek. McCulloch was killed less than a year later at the Battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas. (Library of Congress)

Confusion with Black Bob would make sense. All I know is that it ain't Henry or Ben...LOC or not.

Google thinks it is Ben McCulloch. So does Wikipedia. I guess we will never know if this is an absolute fact without travelling back in time to find out first hand from Ben.
Well, yes we will. It isn't them. This is a really good example of a mistake being endlessly repeated...especially on the Internet, and is an excellent example of why many of us are so nitpicky ... if we leave something unchallenged , it will just be repeated ad infinitum.

Another great example of something not being so just because it's on the internet. Last post was "tongue-in-cheek".
