Go to Olustee or not?

I am in the Jacksonville area one day longer than I planned to be. So I have almost a whole day to kill tomorrow. I went there 8 or 9 years ago and I assume it has not changed much.

I probably could go seethe Maple Leaf. We owe our hostess dinner out, but I could be back in plenty of time. Have to be sure the museum is open on Sundays.

Maple Leaf is worth the tour! Jacksonville changes daily. I used to patrol there in the 80-90s. Don't even recognize the place.

Nothing new at Olustee. It's always a nice walk through the woods but I don't know if I'd do it this time of year, it would be a cooker.

Olustee is a fine little battlefield, but with a bit more funding it could be made much better. The signage along the walking route, for example, merely explains the battle in chronological order. There is no indication of where individual regiments or batteries were positioned.

In the end I spent the day in antique shops with my wife. She had finished up eary and had some time to enjoy.

If you're in the area, you might as well pay a visit. But the real excitement is at the Olustee reenactment that takes place in February.
