So the past few days for me alot of developments personally. I'll be going to retrieve my Chevy truck down south, drive her home her in central PA. While talking about all the battlefields we'd be passing, I ran down the options. Everything ATL related but we'd have to drive 2 hours south to go back and drive 8 hrs north. Nope. Resaca/Dalton/etc? Another time, way off the map west of where I'm headed. Stop in Marion Co and visit my GGG-GF from the 23rd SC for the 1st time and pay respects? WILL do, but not this trip. Looking at the route, WAY off east.

I figured if I can plan another time on the 1st couple mentioned God willing, I talked to the wife and said hey, Richmond is dead off 95, what about Petersburg? So after a lil bit of contemplating and looking up the ability to do so via Google Earth, we settled on Petersburg for a few reasons.

1, several of my ancestors were there, but in particular my direct line in my GGG-GF. My intentions are to visit the battlefields he fought at and Petersburg is 1 off the bucket list
2. The crater.
3. location and not having to travel a great distance off the orig route.

But, there's something more special inside all of this. I'm going to get my truck that was left to me by my grandfather 25 years ago. I'm fixing up the truck to one day turn over to my alienated son. So when he does come looking one day, he'll get the truck so I figured I'd do something cool and take pics of the truck at places, start a photo series with it at Petersburg. So basically, take some nice pictures of the truck and surrounding landscape so he can see history and that his truck has been all sorts of cool places! White House, places like that. A bit nerdy bout the truck and history, so its like a best of both worlds for me, lol.

Just want to leave my buddy something cool and hell, who knows, maybe he'll wanna visit these places or it stokes an interest. Either way, i just wanted to share that with yall.

Can't wait to take it to Gettysburg and take pics. I'm excited to say the least. Get my truck back and get to go to a battlefield in it for the 1st time soon!

Good for you. Spent a few hours in Petersburg one morning in January 2016 and I have wanted to go back ever since then. Didn't have time to see everything I wanted to.

This is important. You need to check the park website. Last I knew they were still rebuilding the park road due to major flooding in the summer, and the road through the park is closed which means you can't access most of the battlefield park unless you want to do a ton of walking.

Oh jeez. Thanks for the heads up. I'll put some legwork into this
