CWT Fall Muster 2025?

Yeah I think about that & wonder if I'd be about as welcome as a dead slug, little miss leftist here, leftist but not insane with it, I should add. But I'm paranoid in general, & there's lots of good folks here with just the war in common, so that would be adequate, I'd think. I'd hang out with the ladies anyway & pray they hadn't pushed into a live cannon by day 3.

I can feel for you. I am not overly comfortable drinking the night away with strangers. I have attended two musters and can tell you that it is perfectly acceptable to attend some of the social events, drink a diet Coke and leave early. There is no need to spend the whole night throwing down shots of whiskey. Remember life is just a play and we all have parts to play. Some one has to be the dead slug.

I am really surprised at the turn this has taken. Based on the 3 (2 in the west and 1 in the east), and I realize that is not many, I have been to, there has been a wide range of CWT members at all of them, from hard left liberals to rednecks, tea totalers and those that like to throw back more than one or two, from the old grey haired farts like me to the young (both in age and/or in spririt). I really dont see the musters narrowing the appeal range, if it does, it certainly does not seem to have stopped anyone. It is more of an individual percieved notion than any kind of concerted effort on the parts of the QM and staff. Just my 2 cents worth.

While a tour of the drive on Atlanta, wont have the prestige and glamour or monuments like Gettysburg or Sharpsburg, they are significant none-the-less. Having done two commercial tours of this theater with Jim Ogden and Ed Bearrs there is more than you might expect. Most of the sites wiill be similar to what we saw during the 2023 Winchester muster and last years muster out at Spainish Fort and Fort Blaklely. It is still the honor to walk those hallowed grounds wherever they are. I am still holding out we can do Fburg this year, and then followup with @MasonDixon next year in Atlanta and area and then maybe Charleston in 2027.

There are many interesting museums and battlegrounds. Pickett's Mill is very well preserved and tbh it was a Stones River without the River basically. One of the CSA last victories. Georgia State Parks and Historical Commission does a lot of maintaining. The wife and I visit many places around there to photograph.

I was thinking of the last day as a visit to Oakland Cemetery. Many inconoclast are buried there from Kenny Rogers, Margaret Mitchell and a copious amount of famous southerners. General Kenny Rogers was famous for the song "Gen Lee don't take your love to Gettysburg". It is also a nice place to have a final lunch before everyone hits a flight or drives away. There is a nice fish house for a nice repast before leaving that will accept reservations... not too expensive.

I like the fact that we also have younger members reading these posts. A bit of history passes as we get older and some of us have stories to pass down. When I was born, I still had grandmothers and grandfathers who's father served in the CW. Grandmother who had their houses flamed while they were burying or mourning.

I really enjoyed my visits to Resaca and Pickett's Mill, as well as the other sites and would love to return. I will add that my first visits back in 2016 and 2017 were a disappointment only because I could not get in. At the time, they were only open on weekends and I did not know this and had planned my visits on monday after my BGES tour- yes, I know poor planning on my part. I dont know their current schedules here several years later but hope that since this will be a group visit, they will accomadate us just like the BGES tours I took a couple of years later

One's political views, regional accents, ect. would NOT EVEN be an issue.

And "good ole' boys" are some of the nicest folks one could ever meet.
True, it may take a few minutes to get used to them, but "in the end" they charm everyone.

On the other hand, Southern ladies are often the most vicious.

It's been my experience the "good ole boys" are the ones most likely to stop and offer help or change a tire if needed. Go out of their way to help people and neighbors. They are the best people.

Got almost kicked off my scholarship in grad school for not being "sociable enough" with the 20-somethings. I was 45+. I loathe bars, noisy places, drunks, crowds, & having to shout to be heard. Thankfully my period of drinking & taking any drug someone plopped in my palm was confined to my teens, early 20s. Maybe we could all go sky diving instead. At least we'd remember it

We had a discussion at the last muster among the core group who has been to several. In the Western Theater we have gone thru the battles that have the big NP and are EZ PZ as they are self contained. The Mobile muster was a challenge and I'm glad we had a small turnout. Having to heard folks in many different cars when you are out on the public roads and traveling from site to site when they are far apart can cause MAJOR problem. So we came to the conclusion that in the Western Theater we either repeat or do as Mobile where we traveled to sites and back (within reason)

And you did a great job on the musters you ran or helped with. We are all in your debt. It was a privilege to meet you and help you (a little) at the Stone's River muster. You and I had dinner at a local Cajun pace before the muster. And I STILL insist that it was ME the waitress was flirting with.

I agree with this, but I also think that a contributing factor for many people at these Musters is to put faces to the usernames we see here every day.

Yes. If I had become active on the site I would have attended musters before age and health make it so difficult to travel.
