There is an anecdote from Col. John S. Hoffman of the 31st Virginia; when the brigade was sent into the Mule Shoe Breach on May 12th, in the fog, Hoffman apparently stumbled on his fellow Colonel Gibson crawling on the ground in search of his spectacles.
