At Chancellorsvillr Fry took over the brigade when Gen. James Archer took over the division. Fry again took over the brigade when Archer was captured at Gettysburg. It was during Pickett's Charge that Fry was wounded for the 4th time and captured. He remained a captive until April 1864.. When released he came under Gen. Beauregard's command and fought at Drewry's Bluff and was rewarded with a promotion to brigadier general.

One biography of Fry states that he flunked out of West Point due to a "deficiency in mathematics". The biography states it was the class of 1866, but I feel this is a typo and meant 1846. Stonewall Jackson's and McClellan's class!
Thanks for the answers before I even asked the question! Thank you @gentlemanrob for your awesome research on all these forgotten soldiers profiles. Enjoyed the reading.

1846 was a big class (59)and there were almost 20 Civil War Generals in it.

Strange. The obit claims he actually graduated from the USMA…..and lists birthplace at Culpepper County.

Wikipedia matches the OP- did not graduate, and was born in Kanawha Co. (West Virginia).

Fry commanded Archer's Brigade after Archer was captured on July 1st. He led the brigade in the July 3rd Charge (where I think he too was wounded and captured).
He was given a promotion to Brigadier, his first assignment being as commander of Barton's Brigade, after that commander had run afowl of MG Robert Ransom's cantankerous manners. He would then breifly command Mud Walker's Brigade (which contained the remnants of Archer's old Brigade) in 1864.
