I have recently read a report that French Troops intervened on the side of the Confederates during the engagement at Palmito ranch. Can anyone clarify this?
The French were in fact involved in this battle, but not on one particular side. Their was French border guards on the Mexican border side of the Rio Grande, so when all these soldiers started crossing the Rio Grande, the French guards opened fire, and most likely resulted in some of the deaths, if their was any, based on historian estimates based off of court martial testimony. Sort of a cool fact.
