I'm trying to identify the abbreviations on the headstone found on my property in Missouri. There is no dates. Maybe somebody knows what timeframe it belong to. Thanks in advance

The easy part is Co B 24th Mo Inf. That's probably Civil War. Take some rubbings of the name and I bet you'll figure it out.

As @gjpratt notes. This is a standard U.S. stone for a Union veteran. Knowing when he died will require some research; could have been a number of years after the war.

Please be very careful regarding cleaning or rubbing the stone. They can be easily damaged, especially if you try to clean them with commercial products.

Are there other stones on your property ?

No, this is the only one. In the middle of 5 acre field. When i bought this property no one told me that there is a headstone.

This might help. It is an early Hensley Family Cemetery near Stafford, Missouri. Twelve family members are listed, but more burials are there that haven't been recorded or photographed yet. Cager Hensley died about 1888 and the cemetery is from that time period.

Another question is what should I do with it🤔🤔🤔🤔

Good question. If it were my property I would try to get the headstone removed to a more appropriate place, like a cemetery. Since the man was an army veteran, there should be multiple options for relocation.

Is there any reason to believe that the physical remains of Hensley are interred there? Depending on your religious beliefs, that may be important. I don't think it would be right to try to dig up the old bones now. But the memorial stone should be preserved.

I was about to say, surely the remains are under there.

He shouldn't do anything to that stone or with it before checking the state law.
