Hello I am a Hardin Co Native and do excavating work for a living. I do a lot of relic hunting and love researching and hunting old homesites and anything to do with the Civil War in this area. Found an old graveyard back in the woods on a large pice of property I have been working on. It is not registered anywhere I can find online and I know no one has been able to drive to it for a very long time. Appears to be an old family site from the other couple headstones I can read. But this one reads:
Isaac Rose Co D 2 Tenn Mtd Inf. Just figured I would share, never know maybe a relative that never knew where their relative was buried could see this!

Firstly, a little info on the unit identified. The 2nd. TN Mounted Infantry (Union) was organized at Nashville, Clifton and Franklin, TN, from Oct. 2, '63, to Apr. 10, '64. The men forming Co. D came from Hardin, Wayne and Decatur Counties. The regiment would finally be m/o on Jun. 27, '65.

The regimental roster shows Pvte. Isaac Rose, aged 24 years, enlisted in this unit on Dec. 24, '63 (and m/i on Feb. 1, '64).

Accordingly, believe his 'Find-A-Grave' listing is shown below:-

You might want to ask locally (like county historical society) if an index has ever been made for this family cemetery. We have over 330 cemeteries in my county, all indexed and readily available, but very few of them are online. I always caution researchers that probably 2/3 of the available resources in any area are not online - finding them takes a bit more time but is well worth it.

I had relatives in the East Tennessee Union 3rd, 6th, and 7th Mtd Infantry.

Isaac's brother, Jesse, served in the Union 10th Tennessee Infantry and survived the war.

Anyone know who that James D. Rose in the right corner background is? He'd be around the age of Isaac's kid, but findagrave doesn't show a James D. Rose at all...
