It's just not Atlanta, it is at most National Parks that serve as a Civil War battlefield park. The shift in the last 20 or so years is making sure people are not offended. Plus the growth of business and developing land for homes has provided a more lucrative option for that city or town than some open park land.

I remember back in the 1970's a big push was to purchase more land in and around the Manassas battlefield, to stop the growing developing shopping malls and businesses that were closing in. Some historical societies did get some of that land but not near enough because of the increase in the price of the land.
