His 10th Alabama regiment was part of the 5th Brigade under the command of Colonel John Forney and William Forney's brother. In August of 1862 when William was promoted to Major he joined Joseph Johnston's army. This is where the wounding incident at Dranesville on Dec. 20, 1862 occurred.

Was King the senior Colonel in the brigade before his capture? Would he have been junior in seniority to J. C. C. Sanders? Would he have been made brigade commander instead of Sanders if he had not been in captivity for so long? I barely know much about the guy besides the fact he was John Forney's older brother (so many high ranking officers have older brothers that did much less than them), was Colonel of the 10th Alabama and then became commander of Sanders' Old Brigade.

The brigade he took over in Mahone's Division was under the command of General Sanders who had been killed several months earlier and had been without a regular commander since Sander's death. Forney took over command of this brigade as senior colonel and led it throughout the rest of the Petersburg Campaign and even after becomming a brigadier on Febuary 15, 1865.
