Fingerprints on blades

You don't want them to sit on the metal too long. You should be able to just wipe them off with a soft rag. Many people have a ton of different ways to gently clean relics even though most times it's frowned upon. I like wd-40 for a blade but there are also waxes that don't attract dust as much.

Thank you, kind Sir! I've also heard of 0000 fine steel wool being used by professionals. Which I am most definitely not!

When it comes to preserving a blade in IMO you can't really go wrong with a Japanese blades maintenance box. Everything for very fine steel. Including rice papers to wipe away oils.

It isn't so much about preserving the blade. as removing fingerprints that may have been there for a couple of years or more. This is my Ames model 1840 NCO sword.
