One more source which can't be overlooked is The English Connection. Over 600 pages of arms, material, artillery, etc furnished to the Confederacy, with excellent photos of Enfield marks {all patterns} and revolvers which were shipped through the blockade. This book and the other sources referenced above will keep you "out of trouble" if you ever consider buying a Confederate Enfield.

Those publications noted may not "keep you out of trouble" completely due to some high quality markings on defarbings I have seen recently, which is a short step to the fraudulent marking of antique arms by the unscrupulous, but the reference books noted will go a long way to steering you in the right directions!

Jobe,
You nailed it. The arms you mention are getting better and better. There are true magicians in the restoration area, who will always leave an identifying mark of their work, and then there are others whose sole purpose is to deceive for a profit. There will now unfortunately be at least one such piece at every major gun show now.
Caveat Emptor.

Confederate inventory numbers:
I'll be glad to look up {"conversation" is the best way} any Enfield numbers engraved on the buttplate tang, stamped on the buttplate toe, stamped in the stock behind the trigger plate, or engraved on bayonets should you have one which is or might be CSA.
A list has been kept on a spreadsheet for 25 years + and is now close to 800 numbers.
