His being a volunteer aide-de-camp at Manassas was to Colonel Micah Jenkins of the 5thSouth Catolina Infantry.

When Brigadier General Maxcy Gregg was killed at Fredricksburg friends of Col. Edwards started a "Campaign"to get Edwards promoted to brigadier and fill Gregg's slot. The effort failed when Samuel McGowan got the slot and promotion instead.

He was expected to recover from his Chancellorsville wounding but his health deterioated and on his journey back to South Carolina he was removed from a train in Goldsboro, North Carolina where he died ftom his wounds on June 21, 1863. I believe his wife was at his side.

His wounding at Chancellorsville was because he pretty much made himself a target. He was "Walking along the top of the works waving his sword to encourage his men". He was shot in the shoulder.
