It says he led a brigade in 1864. In reality, it was the remnant of J. M. Jones' brigade attached to William Terry's Consolidated brigade. Essentially, he would have been a large regiment commander.

He also led this consolidated regiment through Early's Shenandoah Valley Campaign and saw action at Monocacy, 3rd Winchester, Fisher's Hill, and Cedar Creek.

Dungan commanded the brigade at Gettysburg after Brig. Gen. Jones was wounded on the evening of July 2, until the arrival of Col. Bradley T. Johnson on July 4. A one page biography on Dungan appeared in Confederate Veteran magazine, vol. 39 (1931), p. 445:
