This recipe is from the cookbook, "Treasured Recipes of Woodland". This book was published by Woodland Christian Church of Lexington, Ky. It has family recipes from members.
Woodland Christian Church was born out of Revival of 1908 in Kentucky. The first church was dedicated in Nov. 1908.

This recipe for Apple Dumplings is an old family recipe. One that is well worth making.

Apple Dumplings

Fresh apples cored and peeled

Crust:
1 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon butter
1/3 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt

Syrup:
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
6 teaspoons butter

To Make Crust: Combine flour. baking powder, butter, milk and salt. Make into a dough. Separate dough into equal parts, according to number of dumplings to be made. Roll out like pie crust. Place cored and peeled apple in center of crust. Wrap and crimp opening at top of apple.
To make syrup: Bring sugar, water and butter to a boil. Pour small amount of syrup in baking dish. Arrange dumplings in dish and pour remaining syrup over dumplings. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour until brown.

That is pure old school.i think the only way you can get this is to do it yourself.years ago you could get a baked Apple for dessert but that to has gone by the wayside.
