Lee Deification of Robert E Lee

I just love how our neighbor's across the pond waste vowels. May I ask what the purpose for the extra "U" in the perfectly functional word "humor" is for?
I have no idea why you guys dropped the U, I guess it makes language more colourful.

Having been raised and taught English by an Ulster nanny, my humour, too, has been infected in favour of her preference insistence that I was instilled with proper spelling and manners

And then many of them just turn around and throw them away when speaking after all that bother:

e.g. dropping a syllable in words like secretary, dictionary, and lavatory.

Two countries separated by a common language indeed.

Its further complicated by totally different spellings.
Centre Center
Fibre Fiber
Litre Liter
Theatre Theater

The American way of spelling is far easier. Its a nightmare for Brit kids learning to write the English language.

First of all, I don't live across the pond, I live north east of your country. Secondly, We spell the proper way, not the way that lazy Daniel Webster chose to promote!:D
