CWT Fall Muster 2025?

There is a thread which asks forum members how old he/she is which I can't find at the moment. With that said it is important to find out if any attendees are certified first responders. You never know when a medical emergency might arise and it's something you want to be prepared for.

Early Fall is usually a nice time of year because you are past the heat of Summer. It's also past peak tourist season. Just something to think about.
I am a first responder and have two distant years experience (birth to death) as an EMT/EVOC driver on two squads.

But it's the heat that certainly kicked me at Funkstown 160. I would encourage my "arm chair" brothers and sisters to take it seriously and stay hydrated for any potential summer muster.

For Fred and Spotsy Hallowed Ground Tours, and Battlefield Tours of Virginia provide guides who sit in front seat of van.

That presumably requires the extra expense of hiring a van. Probably several vans.

I think the second Muster someone generously paid for a tour bus, but usually Musters rely on carpools to minimize expenses.

Why? Doesn't Virginia have 911?

What is the best month to visit Gettysburg? Not too busy and weather is usually decent (not too hot, not too cold or rainy).
Finally getting back to this. Sorry for the delay.
September is slower due to kids going back to school. No major events going on in the area either. Here in the last few years, it has shifted a little too late August into mid-September before it starts to pick back up.

January- slow time but cold.
February- School groups start coming in late in the month. Mostly from CA.
March- School groups. Tourists begin to come back to town.
April- School groups. Foundation muster late in the month.
May- HELL of a lot of school groups. More tourists.
June- Still getting school groups. More tourists.
July- First two weeks forget it. Anniversary and following is Bike Week. Late July is usually busy.
August as mentioned above.
September as mentioned above.
October- Festivals, retirement group buses.
November-Remembrance Day, but after that, streets are rolled up. Can be busy depending on the weather.
December- Can be busy if the weather is good.

You must plan for every contingency and 911 response times vary from community to community. While the following data is out of date (2023), it it gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.

  1. Chicago: 3.46 minutes
  2. Los Angeles: 5.7 minutes
  3. Seattle: 7 minutes
  4. Dallas: 8 minutes
  5. Miami: 8 minutes
  6. New York City: 9.1 minutes
  7. Atlanta: 9.5 minutes
  8. Houston: 10 minutes
  9. Detroit: 12 minutes
  10. Denver: 13 minutes
The average response time for a 911 call is typically 5-6 minutes for level one emergencies, however it can take longer depending on the situation.

@Joshism you can't presume anything and you can't always wait for 911 responders to arrive. I've had to use my medical training both in combat and in civilian life. I would always error on the side of caution.

This is true … altho not a certified EMT anymore I usually stop at fresh accidents to see if folks are ok. Last time was on the way to Funkstown last year. 6 or 7 minutes and one can be brain dead and so it's essential for CPR to get some air in.

After hours in Spotsy usually fell/falls to volunteers. If it was after five am i would stay in the bunk as I had to get up for work in DC. So response times after hours can vary. Sometimes they will send out the wagon if an ambulance is not available or undermanned. A lot of firefighters are EMTs also.

As well many battlefields are rather rural.....which would have longer response times then urban.

I would spring for a van and expert guide.
Pick folks up even at Dulles or Reagan. It would be nice to talk to folks I have been typing to.

'25 will be a crowded year but twice retired and a writing career going nowhere - I have time and now finally my true and just Social Security benefits from Uncle Sugar. And so maybe even 2 vans.

I would need to know if anyone needs special accommodations or any special needs kiddos who would be coming along. I know I do and so you will have to yell louder to get my attention. Out of CW artillery for good but there's always F&I. \o/

I am going to reach out to the Charleston member. The airport times are much better thru American.

YHS,
Doc Ralph

I have to agree with these comments. The last tour group I was with had 11 people, five were doctors. After 15 years of doing tour groups, I have finally been diagnosed with irritated bowel syndrome (IBS). Who says you can't learn something on a tour?

Alas this humble doctor also had it at Funkstown and Cedar Creek. A true taste for the field experience. I was thinking it was miasma as at Funkstown there was an invisible myst that wafted through. Gettysburg will kick my *** for sure. But will be cutting only.

October in Spotsy before CC for a muster would be best time with kiddos in school and fields pretty much to us.

Maybe if some of you "arm chair" guys could talk at night. You could join me at the bar. Not a reader but a doer. How hard can it be for CW medicine? … Dr, Gross select chapters only.

Maybe not a big smoking bus on these hallowed grounds. Vans for sure.

The cost to rent a bus in Fredericksburg, Virginia varies depending on the type of bus, Here are some average costs per day for different types of buses:

  • Coach bus: $1,000–$1,700 per day
  • Charter bus: $1,100–$1,900 per day
  • Minibus: $990–$1,710 per day
  • Party bus: $175–$450 per hour
  • Shuttle bus: $155–$300 per hour

This is true and is all about timing. Or come up from Richmond. DC is easily up there with LA. The van drivers will worry about it as you can snooze on way to hotel. It was hell enough for me as a commuter van driver not to wish it on anyone. Drivers can slip in and out of here with scenic back roads home. Fly in and train in and out or Richmond.

I think I am the first QM offer and I think most of you realize what's here. Four battlefields … five with Salem Church. I will leave it out here.
All I can say is HURRAH for @Doc_Ralph!
