CWT Fall Muster 2026?

Would there be anything there? The size of the forces and relatively short duration of the first-named two would suggest a lack of enough historical interactives.
I think you may be right. I do know that there are some markers but that's it.

Just spitballing here. The only others that have been listed that are major (excluding Charleston) is Atlanta. Which I have no problem with.

Atlanta posits the same problem that the Franklin/Stones River Muster had is that urban sprawl would be a problem and caravanning would be a must.

Not advocating but went online and found this about Selma........

Windshield Tour - Self guided tour of Selma featuring CW era homes/buildings and their history. (Map available from Selma Chamber of Commerce.)

Vaughn Smitherton Museum - Artifacts retrieved from Alabama River from the Battle of Selma. Also the Art Lewis collection of historical documents containing CW related information.

Old Depot Museum - 1890's train station built on the site of the Confederate Naval Ordinance Works (2nd only to Tredegar in Richmond). Contains exhibits from Civil War to Civil Rights.

Columns of Crocheron Mansion where Forrest met Wilson after the Battle of Selma.

Nearby - Cahawba - site of CW POW camp and Castle Morgan. Also 1st capital of Alabama ... further away would be Montgomery with 1st Confederate White House and Mobile with Fort Blakely etc.

There is a re-enactment of the Battle of Selma but I don't know if there is anything to see of the old battlements.

Many of the promotional lit combines both Civil War and Civil Rights sites such as the Pettis Bridge, etc.

it is getting to be time for me to make a choice of what I will do this year for a military history tour. I might be in for Charleston because I have not been there. Atlanta or Jacksonville I will be out. If the final decision is too far in the future, I will have already made plans. I do realize the CWT musters do not revolve around me.

So I guess there are no plans to this year? Because I need to get my time at work assorted now even if I'm not going to be working at my job in October.

It doesn't ignore it, because you are ignoring the fact that Lee has a 90,000 man army to his front as well. Again Davis has already sent close to 30,000 extra men to Vicksburg, Johnston hasn't done anything with them. Lee argues correctly, that the situation will be decided one way or the other before any of his troops can arise. So you keep bringing up Vicksburg like it plays any factor in this. Lee's troops could never arrive to Vicksburg in time to make any difference. So then it comes down to Bragg or Lee. The reality is if the CSA was forward thinking they would of realized that Vicksburg was lost and there was no chance it could be recovered and tried to break Pemberton out, and then marched the majority of that to Bragg and consolidated against Rosecrans. Even during the Chickamauga campaign while Lee sends Longstreet West, Johnston sits with an army of almost 25,000 and does nothing with it, besides asking for more reinforcements.

Gone with the Wind was a romantic novel (and movie) - never intended to be a serious study of the Civil War.

I am from the North and worry I would be very uncomfortable attending A CWT muster.
Well Major bill, as I've mentioned more than a few times, I'm also a member of the Company of Military Historians.
As you know, CWT is a very different group.

And the fact you are worried about being from "the North" ... is the very last thing you should worry about.
You will have a wonderful time mingling with us evil Rebs. :smoke:
