CWT Fall Muster 2025?

I dont know of a checklist but I would bet ucvrelics, NH civil war gal, Diane123, and/or gjpratt would be willing to answer any questions you may have. ucvrelics set up the 2022 Murfressboro and 2024 Mobile musters, Diane123 andr gjpratt were the leads and set up the 2023 Winchester muster and I believe it was NH civil war gal that set up the Antietam muster ( I did not make that one) but she also helped with the Mobile muster. I attended all but the Antietam (I did not know about the musters then) and each has been different but i have enjoyed each one tremendously. Here's hoping I did not cross any lines recommending them.

Myself and lelliott19 did the 2018 Muster at Ringgold/Chickamauga. ucvelics and crew did Vicksburg in 2019.

Is there any kind of organizing checklist that has been used in the past to give an idea of the scope of the QM's task? I wouldn't mind volunteering to help a QM for a Fredericksburg Muster, but since I have never attended one I am hesitant to volunteer to actually organize one.

There is a good size hotel in downtown Fred within walking distance of the train station for those who didn't want to rent a car. Free parking garage close by.

Still interested in being staff for someone who does an East Coast muster, especially if its in the Virginia/Maryland area.

And just to make things more confused...another good option for a mobile muster in the East would be Lee's retreat to Appomattox Court House, starting in Richmond and ending in Appomattox. I did this one riding my iron horse (i.e., a motorcycle) and its a great trip. Petersburg, Saylor's Creek, Appomattox Court House and the American Civil War Museum. Just a thought.

The War Room is a small conference room at the base hotel used for gathering in the morning, briefing about the day's plans, and sometimes having evening get-togethers.

That thought had crossed my mind. The main challenge is where you stage the base hotel.

Last year's thread made it clear the Fri / Sat / Sunday AM schedule with a single base hotel for all three days is viewed by many as not just the default but mandatory.

Ok, I havent read the whole thread yet but saw some discussion of having a mobile muster. But yeah, I get that a single hotel is easier. I dont think a single hotel for Lee's Retreat is really feasible, though. When I did it on the bike I spent three days and two nights in different hotels doing it.

For a muster it's not so much site suggestions that are needed as any ACW related battlefield or campaign would be possibility, including previous ones as getty was done twice....and been almost a decade so new members if ever did a 3rd......

But its people taking the time, expense, and responsibility to host that is required for any 2025 destinations.....or multiple destinations to be voted on.

I think Charleston would be pretty good...I know a local historian there who may be able to give tours and such (he lives near the Battery, has a giant collection of relics)

Yes, I think it is important for everyone to remember that it takes a dedicated team to pull off a successful muster! It's a lot of work, but it's a labor of love!

Has there been any discussion or consideration of a CWT muster event for fall 2025?

I bring it up now because for 2024 it was suggested that planning would have ideally started earlier than it did, and there was a lot of uncertainty about who would host or where it would be until someone volunteered at sort of the final hour.

I do not mean to critize anything about the 2024 Muster, merely to provide context for starting a thread about something 9-10 months in the future. I am not volunteering anyone (certainly not myself). I just want to bring up the topic for discussion.

Since 2023 was in Winchester and 2024 was in Mobile, I assume we will be back in Virginia or somewhere East Coast for 2025.

I recall previous suggestions for places where no Muster has previously occured were:

1. Overland Campaign or Fredericksburg & Chancellorsville, either of which could be based out of the Fredericksburg area.

2. Richmond and/or Petersburg. With Pamplin Park's recent troubles I think it might behoove us to go here. Wilson Greene's second volume about the Petersburg Campaign is also due out in 2025, IIRC.

3. Charleston or Savannah were suggested as a non-Virginia alternative, although there were concerns about cost.

4. Jacksonville, FL has Olustee, Fort Clinch, Yellow Bluff Fort at Dames Point, Museum of Southern History, the Maple Leaf exhibit in Mandarin, Camp Milton (not much to see), and some historic cemeteries in both Jacksonville and Fernandina. Not a strong contender, but I wanted to throw it out there as something different while keeping the basic format.

Jacksonville would be a much better place than most would think. The highlight of such a muster in Jacksonville would be the Olustee Battlefield!

It seems to me increasingly anything is on table as not much in way of solid host offers to give anyplace realistic consideration.........

One reason I love southern/western musters is lots of ACW places can see going or coming..........the east.....crossing middle Illinois, Indiana, Ohio not so much......

I am much too old and sick with multiple myeloma to be a host organizer. Wish it were otherwise. Hope someone will step up.

Good point @archieclement. If Jacksonville/Olustee Battlefield was a destination then if coming from the north there would be all the Georgia Civil War sites to see, and if coming from the west there would be the sites in Mississippi, Alabama, etc.

Just bouncing this idea. The Atlanta campaign had a lot of avenues of approach. One of which was the Union following the rail lines to Atlanta. Some interesting spots to tour including Picketts Mill as well as others. There are affordable spots outside Atlanta on the Northwestern Sides that are central to many of these spots on the map I attached. I am more than glad to help here, but this will be our second muster and would need some guidance to make sure we got this right.

Good thoughts, @MasonDixon. The host hotel might be in Dallas, Georgia or some other small city in order to avoid the maddening traffic of Atlanta.
