We could do the battlefields in three days … two would be very tight as that might include travel time which is appalling slow in DC and the burg.

Based on past Musters, it would probably be something like:
Friday at Fredericksburg, Saturday at Chancellorsville, Sunday morning at Brandy Station?
or
Friday at Wilderness, Saturday at Spotsylvania, Sunday morning at North Anna or Cold Harbor.
or
Petersburg: Eastern Front & Home Front on Friday, Pamplin Park & Western Front on Saturday, Five Forks on Sunday morning

Specifics would probably depend on what guides and experts the QM & Team are about to arrange.

I'm in for Fred and Spotsy … been passed Brandy but not walked the ground. Those above miss out a lot of good stuff. I know a world renowned black historian/reenactor who works a C'ville. The county also has a small but great CW museum.

I would not want to be QM forgotten geo areas I have no experience or knowledge of.

You can throw out all the locations you want but as @bdtex stated, without a QM there is NO muster. At the Mobile muster there was a discussion among the folks that have attended most of them about the future of the CWT musters. @Sbc is willing to head up a muster in Charleston which was second in the last voting.

Therefore I remove my offer to QM Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania for an upcoming muster in '25. I am a big believer in letting the people decide. Charleston is a wonderful city and lots to see and do down there. I am sure it will be marvelous….

Lets just see how everything shakes out as it early. If we have 2 spots that HAVE QM's then I would go with a vote. I don't have a dog in this fight as I'm a Western Theater guy but I have planned several and it ain't EZ.

Yes sir and I just got an excited and carried away. I have my hands full really with launching a field hospital. I do have a plan for Spotsy if someone wants to run with it. I would think Charleston would be great or Savannah. I won't be attending any muster this year.

If a Muster were to happen I have a couple suggestions.
I liked having the evening presentation at Mobile in the War Room. It was an area author who joined the tour the next day. Kind of like CWT Presents. We also had a discussion about potential future musters.
I liked having this discussion indoors where it was easier to hear. Sometimes it is very difficult to hear the lecture at the tour stops outdoors.
I also liked giving people time to explore areas on their own. We did that at several tour stops. Time to read the signs and view the artifacts.
The Mobile Muster had a relaxed feel. I enjoyed that. It stuck to the schedule and got everything done on the list. One of the lunches ran long because of lack of restaurants on the island and alot of customers. But some snags should be expected. So pacing is important and not trying to overschedule.

If the discussion for an Atlanta muster in the future continues, i think it would be great one. As has been mentioned, mostly concerning the drive on Atlanta, perhaps one could consider going thru SavaBeatie and getting David Powell to join us. With his just released book on the events leading up to the battles of Atlanta, he would be a great addition if he could join u. While i understand this type muster would entail a lot of driving, some of us dont mind that for the rewards it reaps. As MasonDixon said, it is a great time to socialized with friends-old and new. For those who are braver and willing to venture into the environs of Atlanta and local areas, potential side trips could include Kennesaw Mountain battlefield, the Cyclorama, and Stone Mountain Park to name a few. Even though my family has not lived in Atlanta for a couple of generations, as most of you know I do have historical, CW connections to the area and would love to see a future muster to and in Atlanta. Having said that, I look forward to getting together, wherever it is decided for this year.

Haven't seen @Sbc post to ensure his offer still stands, but looks like his last post was a week ago.

Some arrangements perhaps could be made from a distance, but think having someone in general locale to do actual legwork would be and has been more ideal.

You're absolutely right, and I did not mean to imply anything other than to say I look forward to it, regardless of where it is and I am hoping that we do have one

Me too the only solid offer seems Sbc from last muster.......but he hasn't been on or posted it still stands.

Not suggesting it's only possible locale, though personally I would like Charleston. But to have options, need solid offers to host other possibilities.

Travel for me is difficult for family reasons so I'd prefer one closer to home, i.e. Deep South and not Virginia.

4. Jacksonville, FL has Olustee, Fort Clinch, Yellow Bluff Fort at Dames Point, Museum of Southern History, the Maple Leaf exhibit in Mandarin, Camp Milton (not much to see), and some historic cemeteries in both Jacksonville and Fernandina. Not a strong contender, but I wanted to throw it out there as something different while keeping the basic format.

I would burn all of Lincoln's private letters for it to be Jacksonville. I can be there. If somebody twists an arm can we get a free lighthouse tour?

Also St. John's River was where the Maple Leaf was sunk. Had my high school graduation photos taken there a few years ago.

Is there any kind of organizing checklist that has been used in the past to give an idea of the scope of the QM's task? I wouldn't mind volunteering to help a QM for a Fredericksburg Muster, but since I have never attended one I am hesitant to volunteer to actually organize one.

I dont know of a checklist but I would bet ucvrelics, NH civil war gal, Diane123, and/or gjpratt would be willing to answer any questions you may have. ucvrelics set up the 2022 Murfressboro and 2024 Mobile musters, Diane123 andr gjpratt were the leads and set up the 2023 Winchester muster and I believe it was NH civil war gal that set up the Antietam muster ( I did not make that one) but she also helped with the Mobile muster. I attended all but the Antietam (I did not know about the musters then) and each has been different but i have enjoyed each one tremendously. Here's hoping I did not cross any lines recommending them.

I am definitely out … just been asked to speak at Cedar Creek and October is prep. Could help a bit if needed for Fredburg & Spotsy.

No checklist I know of....but from what I have observed........

Price and select a hotel while negotiating a group rate for rooms. Generally trying to get a conference room as well......while keeping conviently located to tour destinations.

Again ussually selecting and negotiating several food options......generally tour day lunches often have to be planned for and arranged as well ussually one group dinner.

Spend time making and testing itinerary for drive times, planning time for stops and suitable parking.

Arranging speakers if possible, in past have had authors speak at hotel or in field, as well have had park rangers provide partial day tours.

I'm sure there may be more behind the scenes stuff like arranging name tags, goodies bags, having supplies like drinks on tour ect.

But those are major points that every sucessful muster has done good job covering its seemed to me. And thanks to all prior muster volunteers who have done good jobs doing so.
