1863: Acting regimental commander at Battle of Gettysburg
1863: Killed on the 2nd day of the Battle of Gettysburg Pennsylvania

A Noble Donation by the late Major Cromwell.​

The world at large will never know all the many noble, generous impulses by which the late Major Cromwell was governed; and we are only giving a specimen of his generous acts in remarking, that since he has been in the army, he has devoted one hundred and fifty dollars a year from his salary, for the ... of the families of soldiers from Cornwall. This sum had been punctually paid in instalments [sic], and we believe at the time of his death, the Treasurer of the Society through whose hands it was disbursed had, in an emergency, drawn in advance upon the Major.—Such unostentatious generosity as this marks the character of a man in its true colors.—Newburgh Journal.​
