How or did the Confederate States mark the firearms they used? CSA, CS, Confederate States?

They varied per manufacture. Most are makers marked and most didn't have CS or CSA a few did, but that is different when it comes to CS swords. The majority of Confederate muskets were marked Tower (England) some had marking from CS inspectors that were in England but NOT as CS in case the blockade runner was captured.

The Richmond Arsenal is one of the few exceptions I mentioned above but not all of them that came out of the Richmond aresanal had CS marks. Also, here is a marking on a CS import from England and the anchor over JS is the CS inspector who was in England accepting this arms for the CSA.

Actually the majority of arms used by CS troops probably had US markings. Not just battlefield captured arms, of which there were hundreds of thousands, but the contents of all the State and Federal armories in the South were US marked.

Except for the limited output of the CS Armories, you should immediately be suspicious of any imported or domestic model marked CS or CSA. There is one in the Fuller collection at CHCH, some kind of put together thing if memory serves which looks very out of place.
