Bully! For Oscar he's &#%% on retreat!!!

No offense taken...but as a Sherman-phile I would say Looking at Sherman is like looking at a man who understands the madness of War.

Sir,
That is an insightfull statement. I would venture to say it takes a degree of madness to be a great military leader. As someone once said it requiers ordering the destruction of that which you love. I have never thought "Uncle Billy's" tactics were not sound, but being a Georgian and from an area that was hit hard by him; well its hard to love him. Good General none the less.

there must have been a method to his madness, though...how else to explain how he waltzed through half the confederacy without breaking a sweat?

Oh, he broke one. He just believed in "Never let 'em see you sweat." Some guy whose name escapes me worried him a lot. If it hadn't been for our buddy Oscar, there, he might have done a lot more damage. :)

He didn't exactly shine at Shiloh, Chickasaw Bayou, Chattanooga or Kennesaw Mountain. He was pretty good at burning things though.

Will,

Have you thought about colorizing a battlefield scene yet?
You should give the "Harvest of death" photo a try.
I'm sure you've seen Mark Maritato's version.

I'm working on a couple of battlefield and camp scenes, but the hardest part is trying to get the landscape looking natural...It makes colorizing the people look easy.. When I get the technique down better then I will post..But right now, they look more like paintings rather then color pictures... :( It all has to do with getting a mix of colors into the scene, but so far its out of reach for now lol
