Bragg fell back to Dalton should he have instead taken a defensive position around Cleveland Tennessee. The position allowed once the army was put back into good order for another crack at reopening the rail link to Virginia.

Bragg didn't really fall back, he was routed. The confederates barely slipped away south. I doubt anyone had the presence of mind to even consider Cleveland as a strong point.
Lubliner.
