I've been thinking lately...how many fully-clean-shaven generals were there?

The only ones I know of are:
Maj. Gen. John A. Wharton:

Maj. Gen. Sterling Price:

Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker:

Maj. Gen. Wesley Merritt:

Any others?

He was colonel of the 72nd but for less than a year. Col. Buckland became a Brigade commander in the 13th Corps (AOT) and was then promoted to brigadier on November 29,1862.
Then in the creation of the corps didn't he command Sherman's old division? I think after that he commanded Fifth Div XVI Corps and then District of Cairo.

How can we be sure unless they were killed in action? what if these photos were taken after the war? I enjoy old photos of the ones having beards, maybe because I too have one!

There certainly weren't many! But what about Major General Francis C. Barlow?

He was described by Meade as looking like "a highly independent newsboy".
Whatever Meade (or his aide) thought Barlow looked like, Ellen Shaw (Robert Gould Shaw's sister) must have liked the look because she married him after the war.
