I've been thinking lately...how many fully-clean-shaven generals were there?

The only ones I know of are:
Maj. Gen. John A. Wharton:

Maj. Gen. Sterling Price:

Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker:

Maj. Gen. Wesley Merritt:

Any others?

Maybe she thought he was younger than he was -- he was eleven years older than her!
