Choose Just One!

This is goin to hell. Guys and gals....there were no Sherman tanks in the Civil War. NOW....my turn! I will take a Colt or Remington, dont matter much. ( this up close as I see it) Forrest as my commander. My horse!....Renzi...or whatever the hell he was called. Winchester or whatever. AND I be backed up with 12 pounders firing canister.

Actually just give me a good rifle musket, a Bowie knife if it comes to that..... This is choose just one iffin yer life depends on it. I envisioning close in. Ya....give me a nuke but that is in NOT in the thrust/theme of the post. Heh.:furious: Have fun.

Shotgun with 00 buckshot.
My eyes and reflexes aren't good enough for any precision shooting.
YES!!!! Perfect! Got one. They had 00, ooo, and oooo, back then. You have my respect..

If I could pick my weapon Spencer Rifle hands down... & the 15th Corps of the AoT at my back.

Reality being what it was though I'd likely have ended up w/ an M1861 series Rifle Musket in either the 3rd IA VI (not likely to have survived the war) or the 4th MN.

But I'd not scoff at a P53, M1841 or Lorenz so long as they kept me looking at the right side of the grass.

Spencer seems to win johan. Seems to be the deal. I understand why.

I'm far from a small arms expert... would someone care to explain why a Spencer would be superior to a Henry rifle? (I know next to nil about them, but they're both repeaters...)

Henry fired a pistol round...44 cal. Not long range. Good...but no good much past a 100 yards or so...if that. I defer to johan who knows his stuff on this. The Spencer was not a repeater....ya had to cock it before firing....not a classical repeater as was the Henry. An evolutionary weapon but very good considering what had come before. Again....I defer to those who really know there stuff on this matter.

A Henry rifle, if I could choose a modern weapon I would choose an F-22 Raptor!
NO sh$t.

Spencer was easier to clean, lighter yet more robust, harder hitting & w/ a longer realistic range. It was also more readily available. It lacked the magazine capacity of the Henry. But the Henry had the exposed magazine spring which collected dirt, Henry was a .44 pistol cartridge vs the Spencer's big .56. I'll take the Spencer.

Tks. I was right on the round fired. Spencer .56. Henry .44. Yup. BUT, ya still had to co@k it before ya fired (Spencer). Not a true repeater...Henry ushered that in. One lever stoke...fire. No more powerful that a Colt pistol however.....correct?

Sharps Carbine model 1859 accurate at 500 yrds. and was the weapon of choice for sharpshooters. The repeaters were super heavy when fully loaded. The Sharps is credited for winning the war for the Union. Hmm...even though I would have been Southern! Then I would take grape shot over solid rounds, more metal = more damage. I would have had to "snitched" my sharps off a body I suppose.

Even tough I would choose the Spencer, The Sharps is one of my top favorites to shoot. I have an original Sharps rifle that is documented to have been issued to Berdan's Sharpshooters. Love that gun!
