I posted these and a few others several months ago but wanted to offer these up again as tax refund season is here!
I have several edged weapons that I would like to sell to raise funds for projects around the new house. I have posted pics of each item but if you'd like more please message me and I can send more to you.
The prices listed are shipped prices!
If you're interested in more than one item let me know and maybe I can do a little better on pricing for a package deal.
Thank you.
1. Pearl Handle Knife - $250
Manufactured c. 1840s to 1860s by the James Westa firm of Sheffield, England. It is marked "JAMES WESTA/LORD. ST/SHEFFIELD". It is fitted with smooth pearl grips that are solid with no movement. No sheath unfortunately
2. Civil War Era Bowie Knife - $500
The knife is 12.5" in length with a blade length of 8". It is marked in three lines
G. WOCTENHOLM & SON
WASHINGTON WORKS
SHEFFIELD
It also has rather large Roman numerals near the hilt of I*XL. The leather scabbard is in good shape. It is stitched together and has 11 small rivets along the edges. There is some verdigris on the rivets. The handle is solid with no movement. A good, solid period knife.
Comes with 2 books on the I*XL knives.
3. CONFEDERATE SIDE KNIFE/BOWIE KNIFE - $2,300
This is a high quality, blacksmith made Confederate side knife with leather sheath. You can see it was made using a file for its strength. This knife has been examined by a leading expert and author on Confederate items and confirmed to be authentic (can share email from him with buyer if you'd like). The handle is solid as a rock. The knife is 17" in length overall and the blade is just shy of 12 1/2"
This is a great knife, most do not come with the correct sheath if they come with one at all.
Note: the leather sheath at some point has been damaged or worn/torn and repaired. It retains one rivet. Does not take away from the value but mentioned for accuracy.
A very nice and authentic Confederate side knife.
4. AMES MODEL 1840 ENLISTED ARTILLERY SABER (Type 1) - $1,000
According to Thillmann, "They are among the scarcest of the class of swords that fit the term "sabers" because the mounted artillery was a small branch of service...Ames manufactured the model 1840 in small batches of 500 to 1,000 until the advent of the US Civil War in 1861. The earliest type was made by Ames under contract from 1844 to 1860...Referred to as the type 1, it has a recess inlayed into the hand guard facing the blade, which accepts the scabbard throat. The scabbard throat...has the raw edge without a mount so that it would slip easily into the guard recess....Any type 1 artillery saber is sought after by sword and Civil War collectors because of their pre- and early-war history."
This saber may be one of 200 delivered by Ames in 1860. (See my post on this saber from 10/13/22).
Saber is in very good shape with some discoloration on blade. It has a rack it inventory number on the guard. The metal scabbard shows wear but is sound and correct.
5. Relic condition D GUARD BOWIE (Confederate?) - $650
D Guard Bowie knife in relic condition. Handle is approx. 70% there (see pics) but is tight and stable! I put Confederate with a question mark as I can't 100% say it was, but these were primarily and heavily used by Confederate soldiers. Odds are this one was as well.
Overall length is 22" with the blade being 17" in length.
Overall in good condition for an either dug or recovered knife that is synonymous with the Confederate soldier.
