I recently found a cap box in a 150 year old barn that I was tearing down. There were other items that I can identify but this one I'm not sure about. It is marked D J Lamb has anyone heard of them. Are they period or modern?

Welcome from THE Heart Of Dixie. Have heard of Thomas Lamb who had a patent on a cap box but not DJ. Photos would be helpful and lets see what our leather guru has any info. paging @Package4

Actually what you have is a very nice cap box manufactured by David J Lake of Chicago, IL who had a contract in Aug of '62, for 33,000 sets of .69 accouterments for the US Army
Here's a snip of the stamp picture, enlarged with brightness +20% and contrast +40%

Very nice, begs the question; whose barn? Hate to see an old barn go it it is salvageable.
The barn belongs to a couple I go to church with here in western Tennessee. They bought the property and wanted the barn removed, fear that their children would get hurt. It was mostly salvageable even though it was starting to deteriorate the tack room was full of stuff. I also think the older more sturdy part of the barn is american chestnut I'll need to plane it to see.
