Hello to this forum,
As you can see... this is my first day and my first post here. I collect weapons from all wars, but most recently adding a few pieces from the Civil War.
Anyways... here goes my first post.
This M1860 sword is for sale locally. It looks to be an original... the blade has very nice stamps struck on both sides, the blade itself looks very good (I don't think it's been buffed), the grips look very nice as well (Maybe re-wrapped at some point? Even the felt washer looks to be intact.
I've posted this same question on one other forum (Reason being, I was waiting for approval here and didn't want to miss a chance on buying this sword). My question is... was there an early contract in 1865 (or even 1864) that would put this sword in the Civil War era? Or was this a later contract sword that puts it post war? My head is saying post war with the sword in this condition.
I'm curious as to which this will be... it's either a possible purchase or walk away.
Thanks!
