Buttons?

Yes let's see! I love buttons it's how I started collecting original items. Small easy to display. And the common period buttons are usually quite affordable.

What are good books on Civil War buttons? I have a few buttons that I assume are reproductions just as I assume any buckle will be a reproduction, but I really have no idea. Are there any "tells" to look out for?
watch out for Confederate buttons.... unscrupulous antique dealers or well meaning people passing on repops. Between the reenacting community and the fact that many original Confederate dies were used to mass produce buttons around the centennial in the 1960's. There are lots of fakes out there!!!If Confederate is your desire go With reputable dealers.

The main key to collecting CW buttons both North & South is "Know Your Back-Marks"
