What is this? Button help.

Could anyone tell me what I've got here..? This button was recently given to me. I have no idea what it is, & have not seen one like it (that I can remember).

US Navy button. If you can read the back-mark it will help date it as this type was used well past the CW.

It is a Navy button of the 1852 pattern when the anchor went from upright to horizontal. The buttons were made in 2 piece and yours looks to be a bit pressed in, giving it a single piece look, I think?
 
To add to the story, or provenance, it came from my father. He had it in a small individual case. Which to me suggests, it was important to him. My father was very involved, & interested in the CW. I was curious if it was a CW era button, or related to my Grandfather (his father).

It looks much older to me than, to have been from his father.

Very good chance of it being ACW
