Bruce Catton

Perhaps because the publishing company wasn't making enough money with all the used copies available on sites like Amazon. You can get a used set ("very good" condition) for $17, which includes shipping, but can pay as little as $5.50. Just sayin'...

Yes, I suspect one reason is the Almighty Dollar, aka greed.

His American Heritage Hardcover was my first CW book. Still have it, thought its not as much of a hardcover as it used to be

Yes, bookstores are also disappearing. Real bookstores, that is. We have a local Barnes & Noble that sells so many toys and games, you're lucky to find a decent book!

Maybe people who even know who Catton was have his books in their library and the rest have a Kindle or other device. Another question asked is where are the bookstores?

Oh ****. After researching the cost on Amazon, I remembered I don't have this particular Catton set; I have his 3 vol general history of the war and the Grant books. Guess what I'm getting myself for Father's Day.

My "to read" stack refuses to get smaller...and I blame you, Chellers!

Wow! And what an awesome present it will be. Good for you! I don't mind taking the blame one bit. Tehe.:D
Or we could call it the free market, or democracy in action - publishers print what people are buying.
Indeed we could, Carronade. Touche.

I know that they still publish it, but its hard to come by. My local library has the hardcover in mint condition with the sleve

I found his Army of the Potomac trilogy for a couple bucks at a yard sale a few years ago, and his Centennial history trilogy - The Coming Fury, etc. - at a used book store for another buck. They all looked as if they'd never been opened! Yard sales have given me a great library. Got Sears' Gettysburg for a quarter - perfect condition.

$70 at Barnes and noble. $3.99 shipping. and i think its the hardcover!!
Alrighty, then. I'll have to stop whining. Thank you much.:D

Congratulations, Donna! Some days are diamonds, eh?!

The future of my library?:frown:

I did go through my books a year or so back. Amazing amount that I never read, or read once. And I was one of those guys who saved all of his textbooks from college. I gave them to my local library.
