Bowie knife

Gents, A old collection was sold off recently and I picked up some of his better CW relics. Does this look like a good find?

Welcome From The Heart Of Dixie. Thanks for posting. I'm always suspect when I see anything marked like this as the Texas stamping appears to crisp for my taste. It would have been a lot more worn than this one just from age and being pulled in and out of the scabbard. I really don't like to make assessments from photos but IMHO its a reproduction.

Got to agree on this one. India at best guess.... The "TEXAS / star" is a bit of an over-sell.
IMHO.

I have to agree with the previous assessments regarding the new made consensus of this knife. I would ask the owner to take a look at the spine of the blade, is it the same thickness from front to back, with no taper? If so, that is a common give-away for being of modern manufacture. Also, the design is all wrong for a knife this size. A round grip is virtually useless on a knife like this, because the knife will roll in your hand. Look for some documented antique "Bowies" and you will see they have slab sides, which keep the knife centered in your grip when using it for chopping, slashing, etc. Just my thoughts!

Thanks guys. The guys had some good stuff. I got a couple nice rifles from the collection; a nice 1855 Harpers Ferry rifle dated 1860 that has the probable Rebels grip worn into the wood and stained with greasy hands and powder, it oozes character. A couple other nice edged pieces too

Here's the 1855, dated 1860. Check out the worn in hand placement from Greasy palms. Shot a ton by a Reb, must have been a good shooter for him.

I wiped down and cleaned the stock with Murphy's after taking pictures of this Half Stock. Super nice gun! The barrel is massive, and gun is in operable condition. It has owners name engraved on lockplate and barrel is marked Joseph V. Geiger Townsend PA. Pewter caps. Need a ramrod.

Anybody have a tip on where to look for a proper ramrod?
