I saw this link for a new book and thought it might be interesting to some of the membership here .

I've noticed that the captain of the ship that Alvarez Kelly (William Holden) made travel arrangements with spoke with a Scottish accent. Could he have been modeled after this man? Joannes Wyllie is it?

You should do a live book talk here. Then link the sale avenue at the end..

Here's a couple new model plans for blockade runners for those in interested in modeling some. These are plans and info only which would have to be scratch built and not for the novice modeler. Site has some great historical info on many different ships.

Main page of the site for further research:

Great book, might just pick it up, thnaks for posting.

Hello John. Is the book currently available? I checked Amazon UK but they don't seem to have it in stock.

I am happy to say that my book is now in print here in the UK and will be available in North American from October/November (re orders can be made from your preferred online shop). I am happy to answer questions about the book and Wyllie as well as talking to any group interested in a virtual talk.

I was honoured to have Dr Stephen Wise (author of Lifeline of the Confederacy) write the foreword for the book. Excerpt below

John Messner has done a fine and commendable job in bringing to life the varied and fascinating career of Joannes Wyllie. Messner's comprehensive account will stand as an example of excellent research blended into a well-crafted narrative that brings to Civil War historiography an important book.
