Blasphemy???

Forgive me brothers, if you think I have sinned. See below, followed by explanation.

Explanation....my old eyes don't work.so good anymore. I use this 1853 Enfield to hunt deer. Last year I missed a reasonably easy shot cuz I couldnt see the sights in early morning light. So, I epoxied a picatinny rail to my 1853, and attached a red dot. This setup works quite well! Is this blasphemy? LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK .

Maybe it is blasphemy, but its not gonna condemn me to eternal flames because the epoxy can be removed...no permanent harm to the musket.

I was gonna say, "It doesn't look period authentic." And, "Maybe it's ok if ya gotta eye problem." But you beat me to the punch. As long as your wildlife resources people say it's legal, then go for it! Just remember to take it off before you do any reenacting or you'll have some 'splainin' to do. You may find the other fellers in your unit pushing you up a tree and callin' you a tree frog.

Yes, red dot on a muzzleloader is legal for hunting here in the Province of Ontario (Trump has not yet renamed it the Province of America...he usually only renames waterbodies...LOLL. Not being political, just making a lightearted joke based on the very recent headlines. Saw a recent joke news story saying Trump renaming Canada Geese to Donald Ducks...clever joke! You are welcome to keep these ducks/geese in the US, they make such a huge mess in our city parks up here).

I am always glad to see where folks are hunting with their muzzleloaders. Here in Tennessee white tail deer have reached pestilential numbers.

From the red leg point of view hunting with a musket is a bit puff-poof, as the French say.

Why not hunt Wisconsin deer with a homemade 12 pound mountain howitzer?

The details of the hunt are droll. Apparently, the game laws of Wisconsin are a trifle vague where what constitutes a muzzleloader is concerned.

Note: Fair warning. He did harvest a deer with his howitzer. If you do not hunt or are unfamiliar with dressing out game animals, be forewarned. The photos are matter of fact to hunters or if you raise your own animals for the table.
