Wow, an excellent reenactor that really knows his stuff on Gettysburg, and the role of BG Hunt. Years ago I read a biography on him and found he was also instrumental is setting up the lines of artillery during the siege of Petersburg.
Lubliner.
Hancock nearly ruined it by ordering Artillery Captain Hazard to continue firing. Good thing McGilvery (acting as Hunt's representative in that part of the field) convinced Hancock to follow Hunt's plan.

I can see both Hancock and Hunt's points-of-view. Hunt understood what the Confederates were doing and wanted to hold back what he could until the infantry began their advance. Hancock understood what was going on but also understood that the most trying times for an infantryman was when they were under bombardment with no one firing back. They needed to hear their own pieces responding to the heavy fire.
Honestly, they were both correct in their assessments. It also helped that Hunt was able to call up some reserve batteries to replace those that were shot up during the bombardment and to reinforce the front.
