Start by saying I know less then nothing about bayonets. Just that they are pokies on shooties.

Found this online and it says it is for a Potsdam 1809. I have a Potsdam 1809. Is this indeed for a Potsdam?

I think it looks like a Potsdam bayonet, but remember that these were made many places over many years, and they don't usually interchange. Tim Prince once had on his table at a show a complete Potsdam lockplate, with a tag that said "Guaranteed to NOT FIT any musket you have"

That maybe a bayonet for the British 1842 Lovell Pattern Percussion Rifle. They were used mainly in India and issued to India troops. I maybe wrong because I need to see better pics of the socket. I only learned that recently when an Auction house tried to get one over on me calling it a Brown Bess bayonet (NOT!).

My Potsdam has a spade piece that hooks the bayonet. Guy is asking $50 shipped for it. Figured I could fix it up and modify it to fit just to display. Again I know less then nothing about bayonets. Just want one to display with my musket. Maybe I'll pass on it.

$50 isn't robbery. If you want it grab it up. Good luck.

It is a Prussian M1809 bayonet. The tip has been broken off though, so keep that in mind for a display standpoint. As other have pointed out there it is very unlikely to fit your musket well.

this is the bayonet from my potsdam,,after trying about 30 different ones, I found this one that started to fit until about halfway down, but because of some patina (rust) on the muzzle, and a bit on the inside of the socket, I still had to hog out the socket with sand paper. Now it fits pretty decent. But what a pain in the butt trying to find one that was even remotely close. And no joke, I tried at least 30 over the last 2 years, I dragged it to every antique gun show, trying out different ones I would find,, I hope your luck is better than mine

I'm torn with buying it. It is cheap and in rough shape so no real harm in making mistakes on it. There are rarely shows around where I live to take it to look for one. We have numerous gun shows but I've never seen an old pokey at one.

Nice examples usually sell for ~$100 or so. The M1809 bayonet also has an advantage in terms of fit is that there is no mortise to worry with. As long as the socket diameter is pretty close to the muzzle size it can be fit with the help of some sandpaper or a dremel/file.

There are a couple of much nicer examples for sale here. And there are others you can find online.

I don't know what the condition of your musket is, but personally, I would want a bayonet that is complete and somewhat similar in condition. Otherwise, the difference could be overly distracting.
