Stopped there on way home from Florida, they still had holiday decorations up, which looked nice at first.......but then I thought it was rather tacky and kinda disrespectful......they put the wreaths at front, which made seeing who they were impossible.

Though it hides names, I would rather see sites/graves, etc., remembered versus ignored and then forgotten.
To purposely obscure the deceased identities strikes me rather more disrespecting then respecting.

You can see from the picture, the wreaths size and density, with frontal placement left the majority of tombstones inscriptions totally obscured ....it was pointless to try to walk down a row reflecting on soldiers identity and units, as couldn't see them.

Oh, if I'd known you were going, I'd have asked you to take pictures of one of the wreaths I sponsored.

Marking the ends of the rows with the range of grave numbers in that row would be a good idea while the wreaths are there. The wreaths are up until the end of January, when a herd of volunteers will collect the wreaths. I'm not sure what happens to them after that.

If it makes you feel any better, hundreds of people donated thousands of dollars to make the placement of the wreaths possible. This is the first time that every grave, Civil War and modern, have gotten their own wreath. In the past, they would sometimes put a wreath in between two grave markers and they would share it. Every man (or woman) getting their own is better. None of these souls have been forgotten.

It's on my bucket list to go down some year in December and help with the placement of the wreaths...

Only stayed bout hr and half was trying to make it to Savannah TN from Orlando also today......but ran thru blinding rainstorm while going thru Birmingham, so stopped short of planned goal.

Trying to navigate multi lane heavy traffic with poor visibility from rain and mist every car kicked up wore me out while trying to avoid hydroplane puddles.

Had drove by on way down, not realizing it was closed on new years day.

The Grave number is close to the top of the headstone. I hope that was visible.
But Im like you—- I like to browse and read random names, states and units.

I have two ancestors buried there. One from the 2nd Tennessee Inf and one from the 1st Kentucky Cavalry- both taken in East Tennessee.
I have an relative - although not a direct line ancestor - from the 1st Kentucky Calvary who died at Andersonville and was taken in East Tennessee. This is a link to a great resource on the individuals who fought in that unit and tells the stories of all their battles. It might tell you how he was captured.
Do you mind telling your ancestor's name?

Thanks so much for providing!

That was for Wreaths Across America, not the holidays.
