This is an 1861 Springfield replica rifle that I purchased in the early 90's. I got it from a guy that was getting out of reenactment. I wanted it for a primitive firearms for deer hunting. Well its sat in my vault for some time no and it time to get rid of it. Missing the percussion nipple, looks to be in good shape. No major flaws in wood work or barrel. I don't know the manufacture of this gun, maybe you can identify. For Sale $450.00 +shipping

Thanks Mark, I've done a quick search on google images and they seem to have a lot more "markings" on the barrel than mine and serial number . Is this done for re-enactment to look more authentic?

Try to post a picture of the barrel markings. Someone might have defarbed it to make it more authentic looking in appearance. This might mean more work has been done to it than meets the eye, which could be a good thing.

The 1863 Remington ( aka Zouave, a name given to it by the Navy Arms Co. back around 1975 or so ), was a contract rifle ordered by the US Govt. from Remington Arms. A good musket, but it was never issued to any of the troops and they were sold as surplus after the war. Most, if not all, reenactment units will NOT accept these as a suitable rifle. But they are plentiful in the N-SSA. ( Which I am a member, and I use one of these for competition )
