Is this soldier holding a 1860 or 61 revolver?

Can anything else be said about this fellow such as what type of unit he was in etc?

I beleive the one in the soldiers hand is an 1861 Navy model, I can't make out the rebated cylinder of the 1860 Army on it and the frame looks too small to be an Army. The one on the table isn't clear enough to I.D.

On another board I was told that it could possibly be a 1862 police in his hand.

I thought of that myself, but the barrel would be abnormally long for an 1862 Police, I see no evidance of a rebated cylinder, (the 1862 was made on a "Pocket" size frame), and I can't really make out any flutes on the cylinder, (although they might be there). The frame does look small though...Tough call.

The reason I didnt think 62 police is because I didnt see the flutes either. I was not sure if they made them with and without.

There were a few 1862's made with long barrels, but all I've ever seen had fluted and rebated cylinders. If the photo were a bit clearer, we might know for sure. 1862 Police models were bought and used in the war, being of Navy caliber issue ammunition wouldn't have been a problem as 1851 and 1861 Navies, (and Remington Navys) were common amoung cavalry units of both sides.
