This is a Mansfield and Lamb 1862. I believe this to be right aw rain, but I also would like to know what current value is on this. Thanks for any help. For some reason I can not upload photos to the forum. Not sure what is wrong, but here are links to the images. I can not even load links to the photo hosting site. Not sure if the forum has a glitch or if its my computer. Here is one link to another forum I posted it on. ms/forum/ken-jasper-international-militaria-forums/u-s-militaria-forum/14371618-opinions-on-this-civil-war-1860-lcs

Just do a search on line for them selling at Auctions or by Dealers. There was an Auction House that had one recently. With the grip looking like that and no wire don't expect a lot. Of course for $12 you can get the wire and install it yourself.

I bought some brass wire and used my drill and made my own for another sword. So that is not an issue. I think I can get it for around 450. Is that a fair price?

"drill"? You should of not needed to be that drastic. Good Luck with that, some will go for it due to the maker. I picked up a 1860 Cav Ames Saber dated 1859 months ago at auction for $500. It was missing the wire but ordered the right type from Tom Nardi and it turned out perfect.

You might also view the completed auctions on eBay. Prices can be higher on eBay, but with an auction house online you have a buyer's premium to pay and often you have to arrange shipping through a third party. If buying through a gun board the price is higher. In deciding which route to go you would have to check with the auction house on what you get as consignor and any fees you might owe. For eBay and gun boards you probably have fee info spelled out but would have to join first which would take a little time to set up. You would also need to gather shipping materials and determine the cost of shipping. You might also consign through a local gun store or antique shop. A number of years ago consignment in a local shop that had started at 70/30, where the seller got 70% was down to 50/50 which would make your absolute bottom line $900.00 if you wanted $450.00. I don't know what the split is now.

I still have enough to do at least one more sword. Here is what I have. I just went to Hobby Lobby and bought some brass wire and used my drill to make several feet. Cost was about 10 USD all in. Here is a photo of what I still have.

that wire looks brand new and not 150 years old. Tom Nardi sells it in 4 colors, I got the tarnished to match the patina. So bury your in the mud for a week and pee on it to tarnish it.
