1859 Sharps Carbine

I was wondering if any serial number identification exists for this make=model. Ser.#69053. Have had no luck. The gun was found by my father in the 50's when he lived in Richmond. Any information would be appreciated.

If you could post some photos of it to include the makers marks and serial # we can take a look and see what info we can find for you. Looking forward to seeing you Sharps.

I grabbed my paperback on Sharps by Coates & McAulay, and came up with pretty good results (not great, just pretty good). This comes in the category of "close, but no seegar". The closest numbers of that model come in a grouping for Company L of the 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry, as 69001, 69031, 69052, 69055, 69067 an 69095 are listed. The authors indicate these would have been the initial carbines delivered to the regiment in early 1863, along with Colt army revolvers.

Love the initials in the patch box. Your New Model 1859 is not listed in the SRS so where it went is lost to time unless you find a regimental ordnance records listing the serial # which will be just about impossible.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it is what it is. This is a piece of history that will be passed down in my family.
