1831 E. Whitney

[CSAagain]

Scored this musket today. Lock shows 'NEW HAVEN 1831' then 'U.S. E. WHITNEY'.
Tang shows a date of 1827.
Barrel has what I assume to be a Belgian or French proof. I'm leaning towards Belgian.
Converted from flint to percussion.
Two round cartouche on left of stock, can't tell what they say yet.
M1816 originally?
Thoughts welcome!

All proof marks are American. The barrel and lock are mixed parts, plus or minus a year either way can be acceptable, but not four years. The stock and barrel appear to have been shortened, the front double strap band has also been shortened to one strap, and the rear sight is a later civilian addition. Regardless, a nice old musket!
