1816 Conversions

My 1857-dated Remington Conversion done at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia above. Below, a more ordinary cone-in-barrel "Belgian" conversion as done in Federal arsenals:

I can't believe they didn't mention the Remington conversions, or the Nipple's Maynard primer conversions, while small in number in comparison to the Belgian-types they were certainly more common than the Colt Alterations. I didn't used to think of the Colt's as CW guns, but after seeing evidence of them among Georgia, and Virginia troops, I'd say its an interesting conversion, certainly one of the "prettier" versions, plus I love Crimean War era guns and uniforms, so I like the connection.
