100 grains sounds like an awfully heavy charge, especially when you consider the .58 or .577cartridge used approx 60-65 grains.
70 to 100 grains was recommended for a .75 Brown Bess reproduction. The standard charge for a Revolutionary War .75 cal Brown Bess was 90 grains according to period manuals. Speaking of the Brown Bess, there were some converted to percussion still in service in the Civil War.
