These days pancakes come in lots of shapes and flavors, but this recipe from "The Thorough Good Cook" published in 1895 is hard to beat.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups cream
  • 8 egg yolks
  • 4 egg whites
  • Grated nutmeg (1 Tsp.)
  • Sugar (1 Tbsp.)
  • 3 ounces of butter (6 Tbsp)
  • 1 cup flour – All purpose
Directions:
Mix the ingredients together. Re-mix before pouring into the frying pan as the flour will sink to the bottom of the mixture. Cook over medium heat. Make the pancakes thin so they do not burn on the bottom. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with syrup or fruit preserves.

I found a Victorian recipe online. Its shrove Tuesday tomorrow and I am looking forward to my pancakes. They are always served traditional style with lemon, butter and sugar on them.

And if you've lost your sense of smell, as many people do, food isn't that appealing.
I have no sense of smell and never had one due to a congenital developmental disorder but my sense of taste is more or less functional. I am not a foodie, but I quite enjoy well-prepared meals. I suppose if you primarily associate good food through smell, losing that sense could dampen your enthusiasm for eating.

I think this falls under the "don't know what you are missing" category. My aunt had a stroke about age 60 which removed her sense of smell. She had always ben a good cook and enjoyed trying different cuisines etc. After the stroke she struggled to eat enough calories because food had so little flavor to her. She said the only upside was that her child care duties were easier because she couldn't smell the stinky diapers.

Both my husband and I have lost the taste for food. Food just isn't that appealing right now. Maybe after we get over this we get our taste buds back.

I have also had hearing lost and earaches. They say that another thing that can happen with Covid. If I don't improve will have to see ear doctor and look into hearing loss.

Covid is a horrible thing . It really can mess you up. The medicine to help has their problems too but you have to take to get better. I just thank God my husband and I have made it. We will handle any side effects. We are still here and see the beautiful day it is here.
