CWT Fall Muster 2025?

That would be very cool to do and have lectures. I think it is pricey but worth it.
We are hardcore deep blue sea sailors as avid cruisers but a river cruise would be an awesome way to appreciate the mighty Mississippi. She is massive and wide in Memphis and twisty turny out of New Orleans.

Yeah !

And I think most of the scheduled river cruises always have a historian on board to give lectures.
They try to provide a variety of activities the passengers may enjoy.

But you are correct ... Mississippi River cruises are pricey.

Might be able to get a group discount if enough people were interested. I think you get a different perspective when approaching the battlefields via the river.
Like a yearly CW study group on rivers. True and like dress up with wives or boyfriends for dinner. I got hooked at Fort Hamilton with its put out boat. Here I have an interest in Rappahannock and Rapidan fords.

This is true.

I think Charleston was up as 2nd choice on votes.

We could call for another vote. My big obstacle would be CC draining my time prepping to speak.

The pics I sent are a part of a county I am proud to call home for over 30 years. It would be an honor to host a great group of guys and gals … if a team could be put together. I think Jerry was in for Fred.

All the other choices are great. To me you talk about the CW this was one of the wickedest of it. Desperate and raw.
There's no point in voting if don't have host to make it possible.

In years previous we had people volunteer to host multiple sites and we'd then vote. Think for two years? ( or mabye 2 of previous 3 yrs?) before this Charleston had volunteers to host as did other sites voted on.

There was a corps of members (see post #2) who either hosted or helped host multiple musters. They seem to have retired after taking considerable time and effort doing so......so if it's to continue, need a new generation of volunteers. And it's not like all members even can, as the primary really needs to live close to any destination considered. To have boots on ground exploring hotel, food, route, site options ect and making all the arrangements.

If we settle on a QM I can offer a bit of distance assistance as I really like the muster concept and have time to help.

At this point we're not trying to decide on location or Quartermaster so much as we're trying to entice someone to volunteer, at a location close enough to them to be practical and interesting enough to them to be worth their while.

I think it's safe to say if it's organized, people will attend. It doesn't really matter where so long as it fits the general criteria.

Indeed, initially wasn't concerned as knew least one offer was made while at previous muster.

But going on bout a week now....haven't seen any confirmation that offer still stands.....or really any other offers..........it's starting to look at little bleak......

A person or persons has to be willing to devote the necessary time and commitment to the muster.

I know talks/lectures can be arranged at Pittsburg Landing and Vicksburg. I don't know if a historian can be arranged for the actual river journey. If yes we could discuss the Mississippi Campaign (aka Brown Water Navy).

I don't know if it's economically feasible. Tomorrow I will go out on a limb and make a few inquiries.

Probably be like a Study group as the cost would be up there. My folks took one on the Columbia River and loved it. I am trying for medical lecturing on Europe River cruise.

There are two cruises already scheduled. They are scheduled for one week and I'm a group rate could be arranged They are scheduled for the Spring and are Civil War cruises.

Cruise One is the Vicksburg Campaign where you cruise from New Orleans to Memphis.

Cruise Two is for the Western Theatre where you travel from Nashville to Chattanooga.

I think Atlanta and Perryville will be strong contenders for 2026.

This year for the east, another thought might be Wilmington.

- Fort Fisher State Historic Site
- Fort Anderson State Historic Site
- Fort Johnston-Southport Museum
- Bellamy Mansion
- Fort Caswell (if access could be obtained, it sits on the property of a retreat and conference center)

Bentonville is less than 100 miles from Wilmington and could serve as a good side trip.
All of those are good ideas. The Atlanta Campaign area would be outstanding.

Atlanta has some merit. I think there are enough sites outside the north beltway to fill a Muster.

The biggest problem I see is some of the public land, especially Kennesaw Mountain, is absolutely swamped on the weekends by joggers, dog walkers, etc. So the Fri/Sat/Sunday format may not work there.

Outside of Pickett's Mill and Kennesaw Mountain, are there any other battlefields left in the immediate Atlanta area? I know other places like Dug Gap or Resaca would be a drive from there and with limited time, would more likely have to serve as side trips.

Since I have been on CWT for only a year, and have never attended a CWT Muster, I don't even feel that my vote should count. I would vote for, in order: 1. Jacksonville/Olustee, 2. The Atlanta Campaign area, 3. the Mississippi River cruise idea, 4. Charleston, or 5. WHEREVER we can get a volunteer host and staff.

We had a discussion at the last muster among the core group who has been to several. In the Western Theater we have gone thru the battles that have the big NP and are EZ PZ as they are self contained. The Mobile muster was a challenge and I'm glad we had a small turnout. Having to heard folks in many different cars when you are out on the public roads and traveling from site to site when they are far apart can cause MAJOR problem. So we came to the conclusion that in the Western Theater we either repeat or do as Mobile where we traveled to sites and back (within reason)

5k a pop be most expensive muster......sweet talk @UCVRelics into subsidizing part of it
I'm NOT subsidizing s..t as Ive spent enough on musters to pay for 1 person. ME:D You got all the money, I'm just a poor old country boy.

In what ballpark us 'unreal?'
7 day Mississippi River cruise generally run 4-5k for low end......compared to just 2-3k for Caribbean cruises......

So perhaps a Caribbean blockade runner cruise..........:bounce::D

Not sure how a group rate would affect it, but not sure we have enough in that price range to command much a group for a discount either.......

Unless I rob a bank, I can't go. Really wish I could, & I remain mad I never made the Shen Valley one I'd so hoped to go on, meet you all in person 🤩, plus see my grandfather's old stomping grounds. Best of luck to whomever organizes & wherever you all decide upon 👏. Having organized groups of people before, it can be like herding cats, way more work than ever anticipated, but worth the memories, even if far down the road after an event. --come to Utah? We can do recreations in the salt flats. You can see clear to Richmond out here, I swear.

@John Hartwell click on the following for an idea of pricing and what you get in return. I don't know how much of a group one could expect.

It's the type of muster which would be one of a kind. With that said I think 2025 will be tough for many people. A more affordable option would probably be a better choice.
